Residents Parking - New Option

Following on from the seven options for residents parking schemes, we have been informed that an 8th option is being proposed. Details have now been sent out to all in the area.

The proposed scheme will be free to residents and will limit parking to 2 hours for hospital patients & visitors, shoppers etc.

The letter is accompanied with a tear-off slip. This should be filled in and returned as soon as possible to the FREEPOST address on the slip.

Thanks to Councillor Lee Martin of Barnes ward for this proposal.

  1. Having lived on St. Gabriel's Estate for 40years and watched this ridiculous situation escalate to the present unacceptable proportions, I fail to understand why the Local Authority have not taken action before now.
Surely they have the power to refuse any further expansion of the Hospital (ie. Planning Permission) until suitable multi-storey parking is provided. We have managed up to now without the proposed extensions to the hospital, let us wait a while longer until ample car parking is provided.

  2. I must agree with the resident veiw regards the the extension to our local Hostpital, it must be a nightmare for resident not being able to park their car outside your own door, this problem has arose through a parking charges in the Hostpital grounds the NHS a free medical service so why go into the carparking buisness?
Are Local Planning Authority shoud not issue planning permision for the externsion of the Hostpital until suitable free parking is provided.

  3. The proposal suggested by Councillor Lee Martin I think would be more acceptable to most residents, providing they were granted more than one permit per house.

I do not agree to the council introducing yellow lines down one side of the effected streets, together with both sides of the effected back lanes, and making some streets one way only. If this is still the case,it would on it's own have the effect of reducing available parking spaces in the effected area.

  4. The problem I've got with this is that it isn't any different to what the Council offered originally. Councillor Martin is at least saying it should be free. It might stop all day parking but the streets will be filled with visitors and patients who don't have to stay more than 2 hours anyway. It's also going to be difficult to police isn't it? I'm also suspicious that this idea has come from a prospective conservative MP. What does the prospoective labour MP have to say?

  5. What about another option. The main problem at our house is people blocking our drive. Why not get yellow lines painted across all drives within the area and allow only the residents to park on them displaying a suitable permit on their windscreen, with a house number to prove they are elligible to park there. Anyone not showing permit who is blocking a persons drive either wholly or partly, could be given a ticket by a traffic warden which should improve the coffers for the council. Residents are therefore guaranteed a parking space in front of their house at no cost, the coucil gets more fine money and it encourages workers and visitors to the hospital to park correctly on the rest of the road space.
